Borscht Film Festival(est. 2004) is a yearly event held at iconic Miami venues showcasing the work of local filmmakers under the age of 30 who specialize in telling Miami stories that go beyond the typical portrayal of the city as a beautiful but shallow party town. The Borscht Film Festival believes in Miami’s potential to host a world-class independent film industry and are doing their part by inspiring collaboration between members of idiosyncratic generation that was born in the 80’s and came of age with the city itself. By keeping this “Miami New Wave” of talent that has traditionally abandoned Miami for larger markets working on the city at least once a year, they believe they can build global interest for the wholly original film movement, and it is their belief that Miami has the cinematic richness of character to compete with Woody Allen’s New York, Fellini’s Rome, or Godard’s Paris. CCCV are the roman numerals for "305". More In its 6th year, the Borscht Film Festival and Miami World Cinema Center have partnered to bring the event to a new level of awareness and production value. Borscht has selected 10 short films from 2-10 minutes for their exhibition program. Through its partnership with MWCC, the festival is revamping their CCCV Stories Program selection and has produced 5 films that tell a story taking place in a distinct neighborhood in Miami. Preproduction for all films was hosted and supervised at MWCC. David Frankel, Director and MWCC board member, has given the filmmakers notes on their projects. The films will premiere at the November 28th, 2009 Borscht Film Festival at the Gusman Theater in Downtown Miami.
David Frankel made a special visit to MWCC to advise the Borscht Filmmakers before they went into Principal Photography .
