Program: One Water Workshop

Type: High School

Download: 10 Day Curriculum

Description: The “One Water Workshop” is designed to provide high school students in Miami with an opportunity to use filmmaking as a journalistic tool to address environmental and societal issues within communities across the world. The project was created by Miami World Cinema Center utilizing the University of Miami’s documentary, One Water, as a jump off topic. MWCC has designed this course keeping in mind that youth has turned to new media to gather news and information. This will enable a new generation to shed light on environmental and social issues that will affect the future well being of the planet. This two-week course provides students with an opportunity and the resources to create a 4-7 minute short that promotes water conservation. Students are divided into small groups led by a video professional to guide the students through preproduction, production and post-production. Students are provided with high definition video equipment and transportation necessary to film interviews and b-roll footage. Films will be packaged and distributed through television partners such as PBS affiliates and Internet sites such as YouTube, OpenFilm.com, and OneWater.org.
